Happy Friday, readers!
Each week I share book excerpts with:
- Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, where bloggers share the first sentence or more of a current book, as well as any first impressions or initial thoughts they might have.
- The Friday 56 hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you grab a book and turn to page 56 (or 56% of an ebook), find one or more interesting sentences, and post them.
This week my excerpts will be from my Kindle First selection for February: Silent Victim by Caroline Mitchell.
Synopsis from Amazon:
Emma’s darkest secrets are buried in the past. But the truth can’t stay hidden for long.
Emma is a loving wife, a devoted mother…and an involuntary killer. For years she’s been hiding the dead body of the teacher who seduced her as a teen.
It’s a secret that might have stayed buried if only her life had been less perfect. A promotion for Emma’s husband, Alex, means they can finally move to a bigger home with their young son. But with a buyer lined up for their old house, Emma can’t leave without destroying every last trace of her final revenge…
Returning to the shallow grave in the garden, she finds it empty. The body is gone.
Panicked, Emma confesses to her husband. But this is only the beginning. Soon, Alex will discover things about her he’ll wish he’d learned sooner. And others he’ll long to forget.
I am not a bad person, but I’ve done a very bad thing.
The Friday 56:
I had to get to work and act as if it were a normal day. I would decide what to do once I had listened to what she had to say. I did not know which was worse: the thought of them plotting about what to do with me behind my back or finding comfort in each other’s arms.
This book sounds so good! I can’t wait to dig in.
