Christmas has come & gone and it’s time for WWW Wednesday again!
Hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words
(formerly hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading)
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
To join in this meme, just answer these three questions and post the link to your responses on Sam’s blog and in the comments below.
I am currently reading:
The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor
In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code: little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same.
In 2016, Eddie is fully grown and thinks he’s put his past behind him, but then he gets a letter in the mail containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank–until one of them turns up dead. That’s when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago.
This is an ARC that I received from Blogging for Books. I just started it, but I am so excited to see if it’s as good as it looks! The description is definitely intriguing and almost all of the reviews I’ve seen so far have been positive, so I have high hopes for it.
I just finished reading:
Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian
Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Queen of Flame and Fury, was murdered before her eyes. Ten years later, Theo has learned to survive under the relentless abuse of the Kaiser and his court as the ridiculed “Ash Princess.” Pretending to be empty-headed and naive when she’s not enduring brutal whippings, she pushes down all other thoughts but one: Keep the Kaiser happy and he will keep you safe.
When the Kaiser forces her to execute her last hope of rescue, Theo can’t keep her feelings and memories pushed down any longer. She vows revenge, throwing herself into a plot to seduce and murder the Kaiser’s warrior son with the help of a group of magically gifted and volatile rebels. But Theo doesn’t expect to develop feelings for the Prinz. Or for her rebel allies to challenge her friendship with the one person who’s been kind to her throughout the last hopeless decade: her heart’s sister, Cress.
Cornered into impossible choices and unable to trust even those who are on her side, Theo will have to decide how far she’s willing to go to save her people and how much of herself she’s willing to sacrifice to become queen.
This is another ARC, one that I received from NetGalley this time. This book really surprised me! I was expecting it to be somewhat predictable and full of YA fantasy tropes, but instead, it was rather original, highly imaginative, and thoroughly engrossing. Overall, it was an excellent read and a solid start to the series. And the cover art is simply stunning! I’m still working on my full review, but should have it finished and posted soon.
What I’m reading next:
All That Was by Karen Rivers
Piper and Sloane were best friends. They grew up together, from childhood to first love, and in spite of how different they were, their friendship was supposed to last forever. That is, until Piper caught Sloane kissing her boyfriend—and just days later, Piper was found dead, washed ashore on a beach. Sloane was torn with grief and guilt. How do you make amends for hurting someone you love, if that person is no longer around? And how can you ever move on and love again?
Yet another ARC, and also from NetGalley. I got a little behind schedule with my reading over Christmas, but I’m slowly making my way through the stack of ARC’s I have to read.
So that’s my WWW Wednesday for this week. What have YOU read this week?
